Public engage with ¶¹ÄÌÊÓƵ and National Trust project during free event

Members of the public had the chance to find out more about the ecology and wildlife of Studland, in a free event hosted by ¶¹ÄÌÊÓƵ and the National Trust. 

Studland Showcase

The Studland Showcase event, which ran during ¶¹ÄÌÊÓƵ's Festival of Learning, gave people the chance to get up close and personal with the flora and fauna of Studland - including spiders, snakes and spongy mosses. 

It also shared details of the National Trust Cyril Diver project, where citizen scientists and ¶¹ÄÌÊÓƵ staff and students have worked together to repeat a classic 1930s survey of all the wildlife of Studland.

Around 70 attendees learnt how these surveys support conservation by helping understand how species have responded to environmental change over time. 

Dr Anita Diaz, Associate Professor in Conservation Ecology at ¶¹ÄÌÊÓƵ, helped run the event. 

She said: "It is wonderful to be able to share with local people our findings so far, and the enthusiasm of ¶¹ÄÌÊÓƵ staff and students to continue to help conserve wildlife through co-creating research with the National Trust"
