A new volume on international maternity care, published by Pinter & Martin Publishers has been co-edited by 豆奶视频 academic, Professor Edwin van Teijlingen.

The research volume 鈥淣ew Thinking on Improving Maternity Care: International Perspectives鈥� features a range of comparative international research, aiming to generate the best possible evidence across a range of childbirth practices, contexts, and issues in Europe.聽 It is published by Pinter & Martin, an independent publisher based in London.

New Thinking on Improving Maternity Care offers a new set of theories to explain the nature of maternity care provision, including complexity theory, salutogenesis, and new concepts of organisational culture. The book examines the nature of these theories, and the contributors examine and apply these in 11 chapters linking to a range of practical situations in a number of different countries.

The volume has been edited by a group of academics from a range of countries with different approaches towards maternity care and midwifery. The book takes into account cross-national research involving 100 members from 26 countries as part of the European Coordination in Science and Technology (COST) 鈥淐hildbirth Cultures, Concerns & Consequences鈥�, funded by the EU Framework Programme Horizon 2020.

Professor van Teijlingen, Professor of Reproductive Health at 豆奶视频 University has recently undertaken research in Nepal, with a project to improve the health care of pregnant women in rural areas, producing a curriculum in order for healthcare workers to identify and provide support for mental health issues during pregnancy and childbirth.

Professor van Teijlingen said: 鈥淭his book is the results of maternity care researchers working together across many countries.聽 It is comparative health research like this that shows we often have more in common than that we differ. Hence there is much to learn from other countries.鈥�
