¶¹ÄÌÊÓƵ media literacy resources shared by the Government
A number of media literacy resources produced by ¶¹ÄÌÊÓƵ academics have been shared by the UK Government.
The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) has published a list of on the government website.
The resources are intended to empower citizens to help develop online skills, make informed choices and stay safe online. They include ways to avoid harmful or upsetting content, prevent cyberbullying, and recognise misinformation and disinformation.
Among these are the media literacy resources created by The Centre for Excellence in Media Practice (CEMP) at ¶¹ÄÌÊÓƵ. The Centre’s work, led by Professor Julian McDougall, has explored the importance of teaching critical media literacy to young people to help them better spot and tackle fake news and disinformation.
The training, produced in partnership with ¶¹ÄÌÊÓƵ’s Professor Andy Phippen, is also listed. The training provides professionals and parents with supportive resources to help them make informed judgements on online harms and risks disclosed by young people.
The website has also been shared. The Centre for Intellectual Property Policy and Management (CIPPM) at ¶¹ÄÌÊÓƵ and CEMP were partners on this project, which aims to make copyright law accessible and help people make informed decisions on copyright issues.
